Mid-Century Modern/Asian Primary Bedroom

Project Overview:

Mid-century modern design commonly employs materials like wood, glass, and metal. We featured rich wood tones and used metal and glass sparingly to create a softer, warmer ambiance. Similarly, we rejected the lacquered finishes commonly associated with the Asian style for the same reason, so we selected warmer wood and metal pieces with a matte or stained finish and selected accessories, such as woven baskets, stone, and ceramic vases, to suggest an Asian influence.

The luxuriously rich amber coverlet with diamond quilting and the hand-knitted ribbon pillows in gold and topaz play with orange, gold, and grays in the contrasting artwork in the main bedroom. The paintings act as temporal book ends—one modern and one that suggests a simpler time from a past century.

The use of metals features most prominently in the mid-century modern-inspired office.  The desk with its canted legs and a case structure suspended below the writing surface by metal posts in a champagne finish, the brass floor lamp, metal side table, and bronze sculpture feature prominently in the design.
