Mid-century modern often features warm, earthy tones, while Asian styles may incorporate more vibrant and bold colors.
To merge the two, we created a neutral mid-century color palette as a base and introduced pops of Asian-inspired colors through accents like textiles, art, and accessories.
MCM introduced the use of bright, optimistic colors, like gold and orange, pops of which are found throughout, but we leaned strongly on the style’s signature browns, which featured prominently in the wood pieces. The office’s slate blue, aniline-dyed leather chair is a nod to MCM.
The Asian palette features many neutral colors, such as white, cream, brown, sage green, or muted blue. We painted the walls white and picked up the cream and blues in the rugs, art, stone, and ceramics.
Because this was an existing home, we incorporated white and gray from the floors, cabinets, trim, and countertops. Gray drapery panels and accents in pillows, bedding, and art appear throughout.
